While you were walking

To where you must go

The darkness encasing

And rain turns to snow

I see your faces

And there is more

The many places

You were before

The glow of the smile

The lines of a frown

What lasts for a while

Becomes your crown

What you do wear

Upon your dear face

Comes with the stare

From another place

How you did greet

The day when anew

Impressed your feet

And carried you through

I passed by your side

And saw in your look

The soul cannot hide

Your face is a book

For all you encountered

And all you did live

Your thoughts have devoured

And your face does give

You stare to the ground

Or grin to the sky

But when you look around

You’ll know I walked by

For a brief intermission

As you felt for a moment

A bout of confusion

A sudden bestowment

The brain is confused

And thrown out of joint

The heart is bemused

And searches this point

The air all around

Is warm and aglow

The moment you found

A soul you could know
